28 October 2016 – The extension of the mandate of the operation Sophia (EUNAVFOR MED) until 27 July 2017 and the broadening of its functions are part of the instruments of early monitoring of the maritime borders of the European Union. One must recall that, as with the NATO intervention in the Aegean Sea, the official objective, several times restated by the Commission, is to « dismantle the economic model of the smugglers » through the interception of boats carrying migrants and refugees towards the European coasts.
27 October 2016 – The European Commission is satisfied of the efficiency of the measures implemented with Turkey, on the 20th of March 2016, and of the drop of arrivals from the Aegean Sea…but migrants keep reaching European coasts by the Mediterranean, as witnessed by the data regularly published by the IOM (International Organisation for Migration).
27 octobre 2016 – Several civil society organisations including AEDH, have called on the European Parliament to address the Joint Way Forward agreement between the EU and Afghanistan.
27 October 2016 – The sixth report on relocalisation and resettlement was released on the 28th of September 2016. The Commission is pleased with the progress made in the implementation of the plan proposed – then imposed – on its member States!
26 October 2016 – The European Union and its Member States are in crisis. It is difficult to predict how the Europe we want will turn out in the end. However, certain causes are worth fighting for. It is time to take an optimistic stand along with the witnesses from The Hague, the mayor of Catania, the citizens of Warsaw and everyone else fighting together.
26 October 2016 – As part of the European project tackling the gender pay gap, AEDH is pleased to invite you to its transnational conference that takes place in Brussels on the 21th November 2016 : “WORKING LIFE – CARER’S LIFE
TACKLING THE GENDER PAY GAP”
24 October 2016 – The European Parliament adopted the own-initiative report for fighting social dumping in the European Union on the 14th of September 2016. This concept, hard to define, has highlighted the existing differences within the EU. The report tries to find solutions to this European problem, and establishes the milestones for the upcoming debate on the revision of the Posting of Workers Directive. However, its impact remains questionable. Yet, it is the future of the EU which may depend on it.
12 October 2016 – LDH firmly stands against the process of provisional application of CETA, the free trade agreement between EU and Canada. The association expresses its strong opposition to the introduction by arbitration courts by the agreement.
A general policy reduced to the smallest common denominator between Member States ; national interests overriding the general interest ; a Parliament that is only consulted to the extent that it is obligatory by EU law : a rather strange way to make the European Union “attractive”!
